The Best Ski Areas Near Woodstock, NY

Located in the the Catskill Mountains and a short drive from the Berkshires, Woodstock is a great place to camp out for a Northeast winter ski trip. If you’re headed to the Catskills for some skiing, here are five of the best ski areas near Woodstock, New York.

Reminder to check the weather! Make sure you check to make sure that there is sufficient snow cover. Also make sure it hasn’t rained over night before you ski (it’s going to turn to ice and it won’t be fun).


Hunter Mountain

Located just 30 minutes from Woodstock, Hunter Mountain is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Catskills. With 67 trails spread nicely between difficulty levels, 12 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, Hunter Mountain sets itself apart from the others in the area. Challenging terrain for advanced skiiers can be hard to find in the state of New York but the back bowls of Hunter West will test your ability.

Belleayre Mountain

Belleayre Mountain is located approximately 40 minutes from Woodstock and offers 50 trails, 8 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,404 feet. This ski resort is known for its diverse terrain, with trails ranging from gentle beginner slopes to challenging black diamonds. It’s a great family mountain for kids just starting out on the mountain with short runs and a small mountain feel. It’s also the closest ski mountain to Woodstock.

Catamount Ski Resort

Catamount Ski Resort is located approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes from Woodstock and offers 40 trails, 7 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,000 feet. This ski resort is popular because it offers a range of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The different levels of trails are grouped together very nicely making this a great mountain for a group with multiple levels of skier. With it’s proximity to the great food in the Berkshires, this is a great day trip from Woodstock.

Windham Mountain Club

Windham Mountain Club is another popular ski resort near Woodstock, located approximately 50 minutes away. With 54 trails, 12 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, Windham Mountain offers a family-friendly atmosphere and a variety of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. This is a semi-private ski resort to be sure to review

Plattekill Mountain

Plattekill Mountain is located approximately 55 minutes west of Woodstock and offers 38 trails, 4 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,100 feet. This ski resort is known for its more challenging terrain, with steep, ungroomed trails that are popular with advanced skiers and snowboarders. Plattekill Mountain bills itself as the best family skiing in the Catskills however it’s important to note that many of the trails are double black diamonds (experts onnly). The green circle (easier) trails account for only 20% of the mountain but they also offer fun activities such as snow tubing.
